About Me...
Now the difficult bit!! Where to begin..
I was born with one foot in East London and the other in the Essex hinterland.
My family having left the East End many years before. Childhood progressed in a blur
of energy and activity as it does for most of us. From amongst the blur certain memories have always been strong, bedtime stories.
Hearing renditions of Dr Suess, The Hungry Caterpillar and Where the Wild Things are, in those moments before sleep had a
lasting effect.
I began to draw avidly and devoured every kids book available. It wasn't until I left school that Art once again came to the fore.
I went on to study Fine Art at Wimbledon and Cheltenham Schools of Art. Kids books and Illustration where continued as a sideline during this
time. (The mere mention of graphics/illustration can cause a riot in a fine art studio!!).
Over the years contacts led me to illustrate caricatures for the Herald Tribune
and in 1994-95 I illustrated the London Green Guide.

How I work..
All my ideas with few exceptions come from the process of
drawing itself. With a character in mind or a basic concept I put pencil
to paper. Like automatic writing I follow a thread of one mark after
another. In this way a character is often born fairly swiftly, a character
which will suggest an environment and in turn this will often create
a narrative.
If not already underway the writing will now start and go
hand in hand with the sketching, refining both as I go. The whole process
is for me immensely exciting rather like unwrapping a present that has
always been there, it's just a matter of discovery.
